What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractors treat problems with your joints, bones and muscles and the
effects they have on your nervous system. Working on all the joints of your
body, concentrating particularly on the spine, they use their hands to make
gentle specific adjustments (the Chiropractic word for manipulation) to
improve the efficiency of your nervous system.
The British Chiropractic Association defines chiropractic as:
"a primary health-care profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions that are due to problems with the joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves of the body, particularly those of the spine.
Treatment consists of a wide range of manipulative techniques designed to improve the function of the joints, relieving pain and muscle spasm. Chiropractic does not involve the use of any drugs or surgery."
Chiropractic Regulation
Chiropractic is regulated by Act of Parliament in the United Kingdom. The Chiropractors Act 1994 gives regulatory powers to the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). The GCC’s register of chiropractors opened in June 1999 and approximately
2200 chiropractors are currently registered. It is illegal for anyone in the UK who is not registered with the GCC to describe themselves as a chiropractor.

Who Can Benefit
Accidental injury
Trauma can distort your body structure and irritate nerves, ligaments, bones and discs. Chiropractors specialise in detecting and resolving spinal dysfunction and pain.
Sports Injuries
Sports injuries can be a very real problem for all athletes: strains, sprains, tendonitis, bursitis, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, frozen shoulder, back pain, neck pain – the list goes on. Chiropractic can be of enormous benefit in treating and preventing sports-related injuries and improving athletic performance.
Work-related injury
Repetitive strain or overuse at work can impair joint mobility and muscle strength leading to pain, disability and an overall decrease in your quality of life. You don't have to live with it - we help you get to the root of the problem and guide your body to heal and restore your health.
Chiropractic care during pregnancy
Chiropractic care during pregnancy is aimed at relieving the strains and stresses applied to your body as a result of the new life developing within your womb. Treatment can help maximize the stability and alignment of the pelvis, reducing discomfort and preparing your body for labour. Pregnant women seek our help directly or are referred by their GPs or Obstetricians.
Babies
Pregnancy and birth can be a traumatic time for both you and your child. The stresses placed on the young skeleton may cause minor functional problems of the spine, the pelvis or the extremities. Whatever the age of your child, chiropractic care can be a safe and effective treatment.
Children
Children grow quickly and their muscles, ligaments and bones develop rapidly. A jump or fall can jar the body, affect the spine and nervous system and go undetected for years. Simple factors, such as a heavy schoolbag or poor school seating can have negative effects on your children's health.
Teenagers
Teenagers grow quickly and often need our advice on the benefits of proper diet, exercise and improved posture achieved through spinal manipulation and rehabilitation to help achieve a body that is structurally and functionally sound.
Maturing adults
Maturing adults encounter physical problems associated with ageing. We understand the effects of ageing and can help posture and minimise pain with joint mobilisation, massage, dry needling and posture work.
